Initial Research

The first part of the project is the research. This will allow us to create a life-like feeling to the work and also give the important educational aspect which is one of the defining parts of the work.

We looked at how many casulties there were, what machines and people were involved. From here we can apply this knowledge to the animation to make it realistic, dramatic and in the correct order of events as it unfolded.

My initial research for my team was to find out about the battleships used by the US at Pearl Harbor. These were named after American places and include: Nevada, Arizona, Tennessee, Oklahoma, West Virginia, California and Maryland.

USS Arizona held the most casulties- 1,177 dead. Beacuse of this I think I will use Arizona as the main battleship in the animation.

To help with the modelling I will use existing pictures of USS Arizona and physical replica models to help create an accurate representation.

The creation of Infamous

Infamous is the name of our team.

We firstly got together and established what ideas we had about the project. We discussed what our theories were about Pearl Harbor (american spelling) and how we would like to show these.

We all thought that Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) had some involvement in the event so we decided we wanted to include him in the animation somewhere.

We also shared thoughts on what the animation would look like and what aspects of the work we would like to do.

As a team we decided that we wanted a first person perspective of people involved to grab the audience and involve them as much as possible. From this we could show the educational side to the work as if the audience were experiencing it first-hand.

From this we selected what team member should do what. Each member put forward what they would like to research and model using 3DS Max. This first week I am researching what US naval ships were being used at Pearl Harbor and what they looked like, so in the future I could model the ship in detail.

I also will be looking at what attire the people involved wore. These people include:

  • FDR
  • Japanese Lieutenant
  • USS Commander
  • USS naval private
I will research this information and bring it to next weeks meeting.

Pearl Habour Brief

The brief set for this Virtual Environments is the Pearl Habour attack which happened on 7th Decemeber 1941.

This is a very intriguing brief that consists of many different conspiracies. Portraying the information in an believeable and interesting way will be the focus of the module for me.

Pearl Habour was a huge event in American history and it is important to gain a strong perspective which is supported by evidence. It is important to also look at the other conspiracies and include their opinions and evidence for the work.

I am looking forward to creating an emmersive animation scene for Pearl Habour. I think it will be challenging but I am looking forward to learning new skills which can aid in creating the work.

The project is in groups of 3 or 4 people. I am looking forward to mixing ideas and thoughts together with other teammates. I am hoping there is not conflicting ideas because the event is so controversial.
